A Strength-Based Therapist Who sees the Whole Person & LGBTQ Advocate
It has been a lifelong passion to help others to meet their goals and live their best lives. Jennifer is a strong advocate of LGBTQ youth and adults, and has a particular interest in helping them thrive in a world that may not be ready to appreciate the amazing unique person they were born to be.
Jennifer's favorite part of working with individuals are the moments where the light bulb turns on for her clients. With a shift in perspective, suddenly things no longer seem so unsurmountable, and they are instilled with hope. Her greatest compliment has come from those she has helped change the course of their lives. A particularly memorable moment came when a former client contacted her to let her know that Jennifer’s support and guidance empowered her to reimagine her life. The client went on to graduate from college and become a successful wife, mother and social worker.
Therapy for Children, Teens, and Family Guidance
Jennifer has a particular interest in helping teenagers get their life back on track. Many teens are reluctant to open up in therapy, but Jenn’s easy going demeanor allows teens to feel comfortable opening up. As the parent of a teenager herself, she particularly enjoys helping fellow parents overwhelmed with how to deal with the challenges of parenting in the Pandemic.
Mental Health for Executives Seeking Health Optimization
Who knows burnout more than a former burnt out executive herself?
Jennifer has a strong appreciation of the mental health system and has worked as executive director of partial hospital programs (PHPs), intensive outpatient programs, and even residential treatment (RTF/RTC). She incorporates her leadership skills in working with executives who are looking to optimize their mental wellbeing, she believes in building upon strengths and helping others improve by making realistic, achievable goals - one success at a time.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - Tools to Become Your Own Therapist
There are many types of therapy that she can draw from in her therapeutic arsenal but she often looks to incorporate elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy allows for an individual to make the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This cognitive triangle helps clients change behaviors by catching negative thoughts, checking for evidence that supports/discredits, and challenges the individual to consider more beneficial thoughts. It is so simple that even kids can use it to identify patterns that are holding them back from success.
Good Treatment Involves Collaboration with Other Providers
Jennifer understands that her role as a therapist extends beyond the confines of a session. She uses her mastery of the mental health system in Philadelphia, Philly suburbs, and Delaware to ensure that individuals feel the support of a full team. She looks forward to collaborating with other medical and mental health providers. For children, she communicates with schools (with proper consent) to advocate a child’s needs. When appropriate, she knows when to refer for psychiatric medication evaluation. She works closely with Dr. Travis Dichoso (adult psychiatrist) and Dr. Mark Novitsky (child psychiatrist) and regularly reviews cases with them to ensure optimal treatment.
Jennifer grew up in Philadelphia’s suburbs and her greatest source of happiness comes from her family. Most importantly in that world is her teenaged son, Andrew. Family time is best spent at the beach and in Disney World.
