"Who is Barb "Tink" Kish?"

“That’s what the Rock Boat is all about - its never cookie-cutter, you get something different every year…. You never know what these bands are gonna do!”

-Barb “Tink” Kish

Tink has her 21 year old son to thank for her introduction to the Rock Boat. When her son was 5 years old, she learned about TRB through a classmate’s parents. She was there in the early days and recalls Zac Brown playing on the bar. Over the years, she has developed a passion for Swag. She makes her own handmade swag and opens up in this episode about her favorite swag (Bueller? Bueller?) - and more importantly, how it has led to meeting fellow Boaters. Planning started a year and a half ago - and this year, she is making Bottle Caps, to celebrate Boaty’s 21st Bday.

Bring your swag to trade and find Barb in her light-up Tinker Bell wings!!!

"Who is Pam Bullock?" (The Ro-Ro-Robe Your Boat Series)

“We share a love of music but also, on the Boat we are all ageless… I think the best thing about the Rock Boat is what it’s done to the other 360 days of the year - I have literally traveled coast to coast to meet up with Rock Boaters to see other festivals and shows and they become friends and family…”

-Pam Bullock

Soon-to-be 10-time Rock Boater, Pam Bullock joins Chris Rhoad and BoatCast mark to prepare for her Robe year. Pam was first introduced to TRB while sailing on Sixthman’s VH1 Best Cruise Ever and meeting fellow Boaters. She recalls that first moment on TRB XI, standing on the Pool Deck with a bucket of Corona, and her amazement as multiple people came up and introduced themselves. You may know Pam as the Spelling Bee Champ of TRB XVIII. Perhaps, you have been in her cabin, for one of several cabin shows she has hosted over the years. She has hosted house shows in Chicago as well. Truly, Pam lives her life Rock Boat to Rock Boat.

This year, Pam will be hitting up Soulshine at Sea with a number of fellow Boaters prior to TRB XXI - and preparing herself for her Boat Goal of staying up until Sunrise (with BoatCast Chris).

Guess Who’s Back ?!?!?! Jennifer and Gordon Rosenberry return to discuss preparation for their 10th Boat with Chris Rhoad and BoatCast Mark. The elaborate on their connection with fellow boaters and TRB bands over first 9 RockBoats boats (and several Barenaked Ladies cruises).

"Who is Melissa Marshall?

“I’ve always wanted to go on the Rock Boat… I’ve had a little glimpse of it over the years but was never able to commit and once that date change came, I said let’s do it - I have nothing holding me back… its been a long time waiting for this Boat…”

Melissa Marshall has never been on the Rock Boat, but this TRB Virgin sounds ready for The Boat. She has her fellow Chicago TRB family to thank for prepping her for the experience as she’s been to multiple house concerts and regularly follows TRB artists through faithful concert attendance and buying Merch (expect to see her at the will Meet and Greets getting her CDs autographed).

Chris Rhoad and BoatCast Mark look forward to sipping on some Seltzers on the deck of the Boat and already anticipate having Melissa back on the podcast again to debrief after she rocks out her first Boat.

“The Rock Boat has kind of levied, ‘This is who you are - You still do this’ throughout all of the pandemic…”

-Mac Hanson

Mac Hanson, of Joshua and the Holy Rollers, has never previously Rocked a Boat, but he is ready for TRB. When he got the nod from Sixthman, he reached out to buddies (including his three brothers who have previously Rocked the Boat ) for some guidance about the Boat).

Mac joins Chris Rhoad and BoatCast mark to discuss his excitement about going “all-in” for his first Boat, and talks elevator parties, cabin shows, exclusive TRB Merch. "Who is Barry Privett (of Carbon Leaf)?"

“The Rock Boat actually rented us tuxedos for the first night!”

After Eight Rock Boats (and 1 Chips and Dips Cruise), Barry Privett of Carbon Leaf has become a staple of TRB. Barry joins Chris Rhoad and BoatCast Mark to relive his most memorable Rock Boat moments, including the Ghostbusters vs. the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man on-stage skit during TRB XX epic movie theme night, Playing Danger Zone from Top Gun, and Sixthman renting Carbon Leaf Tuxedos to perform in after Delta Airlines misplaced the band’s luggage. Barry reflects on the friendships and fans that he has made on the boat - and the intersection of the two. He talks about “Sea Leaf”, a weekend at the Beach with Buncearoo.

Check out their most recent release, “Songs by the Sea”, filmed in May 2019 on the heels of the band's spring tour, with the goal of capturing as many Carbon Leaf songs on location as they could in the timeframe they had.

“I was just with a guy a couple weeks ago, we were hanging out and he’s been on a bunch of Rock Boats and he says ‘It’s the best experience of all time’…”

While this will be the first Rock Boat for international rock stars, American Authors, frontman Zac Barnett shows a deep understanding of what The Boat is all about. He and his band are already prepping for their set lists, connecting with fans, and preparing for cabin shows. Zac gives a preview of his “90’s Surf Wear” themed apparel for the Merch Store. He is especially looking forward to getting back into playing live music, and TRB will be one of the first opportunities.

Zac puts out some good energy into the world and predicts a post-Rock Boat collab with Andrew McMahon.

"Who is Andrew McMahon?"

“I had no idea what to expect but walked away from it feeling like I had visited another planet altogether - as it relates to COVID now, when we get on The Boat it’s going to be even more surreal and a very cathartic experience…”

TRB XXI headliner and TRB XIX veteran, Andrew McMahon (of Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Jack’s Mannequin, and Something Corporate), joins Chris Rhoad and BoatCast Mark to reminisce the excitement of The Rock Boat. His experience on TRB XIX completely and the interactions that he had on the boat. He found that his interaction with Boaters was very friendly and felt like seeing friends. Andrew talks getting out in the crowd during his full energy live sets, including hi-fives and laps on the upper deck during his closer, Synesthesia.

"Who is Marc Broussard?"

“We loved it so much that my wife and I ended up getting married on The Rock Boat… How many artists who have performed on The Rock Boat, can say they got married on The Rock Boat?”

Five-time Rock Boater, Marc Broussard, joins Rhoad and BoatCast Mark to reminisce years of hanging out with good friends playing live music on The Boat. Marc recalls the days of late night jams on the early boats with Francisco and Zac Brown, his respect for Andy Levine, the professionalism of the Sixthman sound crew, and David Ryan Harris performing at his wedding.

Marc has been busy for the last year writing new material and just released a Children’s Book: “I Love You For You”, of which he generously donated 10 copies that The BoatCast is giving away to local pediatric Hospitals, CHOP and A.I. DuPont.

"Who is Mom Rock?"

While the Boston-basted Alt Rock Quartet, Mom Rock, hadn’t heard about The Rock Boat until this past year, their extreme energy and history in the DIY scene make them a perfect fit for TRB XXI.

The band’s name is fitting as drummer Wilson Reardon shares his mother is close friends with several Rock Boat veterans. Reardon is joined by Josh Polack (guitar, vocals) and Tara Maggiulli (bass, vocals) to discuss TRB prep with Christopher Rhoad and BoatCast Mark.

Mom Rock has been doing their research and have even been hard at work preparing Merch (get your “Janny pack” early at https://www.momrockofficial.com/merch) and are looking to throw some covers into their sets. They look forward to collaboration with fellow bands, making life-long fans, flip cup (apparently Tara is predicting victory), and the scoping out the Buffett (look for Josh at the Salad bar). The Berklee School of music group will be hitting the road and playing at the prestigious Music Midtown in Atlanta and has been busy at work re-inventing the way music is made during the pandemic. Just this week (7/23/21) they released an infectious EP “A song With a Happy End” that can be heard anywhere streaming music can be heard.

In this third installment of How Did Love ROCK Your BOAT?, Della and Steven Baker join Chris Rhoad and BoatCast Mark to relive the magic of falling in love on TRB.

By TRB XVI, they pair were happily married. Listen to their favorite memories from their 5 Boats - and look out for this episode’s special Boat-0-Bomb, in which a fellow Boater hops in to surprise the couple…. "Who are Josh Hogan & Andy Warren (of The Mowgli's / Modern Original)?"

“It’s why we love the Rock Boat so much - it extends beyond The Boat. Rock Boaters are the truest fans in the game. We noticed from our touring experiences after The Boat that in every city… there would be multiple Rock Boaters that were down to see you, chat after, they know what you are up to… such a loyal squad…”.

Josh Hogan and Andy Warren join Chris Rhoad and BoatCast Mark to reminisce their back to back Rock Boat sailings in '14 and ‘15 with The Mowgli’s.

Josh additionally talks about his experience, along with Katie, as part of the Sixthman Sessions and the ability to connect with fellow artists. They could not speak highly enough about their respect for Sixthman and the Rock Boat Community, which have supported them on the road. Josh and Andy invite the Rock Boat Community to check out their newest venture, Modern Original. Now they have handwritten lyrics by Rock Boat artists in their children’s rooms in their NJ home.

"Who are Kara and Nathan Yetter?" - How Did Love ROCK Your BOAT? - part 1

With 22 Rock Boats between them, The Yetters have a lot of TRB memories, but none are more memorable than the time they met and fell in love on TRB X.

Kara Yetter had spent years yearning to get on The Boat (and while she was never on it at the time, mentioned TRB in her high school year book) but nursing school had gotten in the way.

Nathan Yetter joined the boat after his father, a huge Better Than Ezra fan, got off of TRB VII and informed him that he was joining on TRB VIII. After a chance meeting on TRB X, their lives would never be the same.

Listen as The Yetters share their magical story of falling in love on The Boat - and some of their favorite memories, including Alternate Routes going acoustic, Amy Gerhartz transformation, and their upgrade to Room U-69.

This is the first Episode to introduce a Boat-0-Bomb, in which a fellow Boater hops in to suprise the couple…. Listen in to hear this week's special guest.

"Who is Brett Newski? Author/Musician/90's Kid/Anxiety Survivor..."

In this 69th Episode of The BoatCast, Brett Newski, lead singer of Brett Newski and the No Tomorrow, joins Chris Rhoad and BoatCast Mark as the first returning guest to the Podcast.

Brett discusses his new book, “It’s Hard To Be a Person: Defeating Anxiety, Surving the World, and Having More Fun” and opens up about his own battles with Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

Brett candidly shares his worries prior to TRB XX, including a fear that he would lose his voice. He connects the likelihood that his unnecessary worrying affected his immune system and it became a self-fulfilling prophecy, resulting in cancelling shows on The Boat. Brett wants you to learn from his own life lessons on the best ways to handle anxiety with this how-to survival guide.

BoatCast Mark, who was recently named to Bethesda Magazine’s Top Doctor’s 2021 list as a Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist attests to the quality and utility of this book for anxious teens and adults.
